Trump Reports Massive Casualties Uncovered in Gaza Amid Hostage Searches
Speaking during his annual State of the Union address, Trump described the difficult search operations carried out in the war-torn enclave. "Believe it or not, Hamas worked along with Israel, and they dug and they dug and they dug. It's a tough thing to do, going through, bodies all over, passing up 100 bodies, sometimes, for each one that they found," Trump said during his annual State of the Union address.
He continued by emphasizing the eventual recovery of the hostages’ remains. "They found all 28. Nobody thought that was possible, but we did it," he added, referring to the bodies of the hostages that were eventually returned to Israel.
Trump also appeared to minimize the scale of ongoing Israeli military operations in Gaza, despite a ceasefire agreement he previously helped facilitate. "Of course, the war in Gaza, which proceeds at a very low level, it's just about there. And I want to thank Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner for your help," he said.
According to reports, Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner have played central roles in leading diplomatic initiatives related to Gaza and other regional matters on behalf of the administration.
Israel began a sustained military campaign in the Gaza Strip on Oct. 8, 2023. According to figures cited by reports, more than 72,000 people — the majority of them women and children — have been killed, and over 171,000 others have been injured. The offensive followed a cross-border attack led by Hamas a day earlier that left around 1,200 people dead in Israel.
