Italy Vows Continued Support for Gaza Peace Plan, Reconstruction

(MENAFN) Italy’s Foreign Minister Antonio Tajani said on Saturday that Rome remains committed to implementing the Gaza peace plan and supporting the reconstruction of the Palestinian enclave, including through involvement of the Italian private sector.

Tajani made the remarks during a meeting with European and regional partners on the sidelines of the Munich Security Conference, which was also attended by Palestinian Foreign Minister Varsen Aghabekian Shahin.

"The reconstruction of #Gaza was the focus of today's meeting in #Munich," he wrote on the US social media platform X.

He highlighted Italy’s $60 million plan supporting humanitarian aid, demining, health and education facility improvements, housing renovation for displaced persons, and broader backing for Palestinian institutions.

"We will continue our commitment to implementing the Peace Plan and rebuilding the Strip, involving also our private sector," Tajani said.

The foreign minister stressed that the immediate priority is sustaining the ceasefire reached in October, while the long-term goal is creating conditions for a Two-State solution to the Israel-Palestine conflict.

"This is why we deem unacceptable any attempt to annex Palestinian territories," he added.

The announcement comes in the context of extensive casualties and destruction in Gaza, where more than 71,000 people were killed over a two-year period starting in October 2023.
