Renewed Breaches Undermine Gaza Ceasefire
Health officials informed a news agency that a 16-year-old boy succumbed to severe wounds after being shot by an Israeli unit that advanced into the vicinity of the al-Ternes sector within the Jabalia refugee camp in northern Gaza.
They noted that emergency responders could not access the location because of intense Israeli gunfire that made the area inaccessible.
Eyewitness accounts indicated that an Israeli contingent consisting of multiple armored vehicles and bulldozers, supported by infantry forces, moved several hundred meters past the “yellow line” into the al-Ternes zone and nearby sections of the camp.
In addition, a man and woman were reported killed after being struck by gunfire originating from military cranes near the Halawa displacement camp region in Jabalia, the medical sources added.
A ceasefire arrangement came into effect in Gaza on Oct. 10 under US President Donald Trump’s 20-point initiative, pausing two years of Israeli offensives that had claimed the lives of more than 70,000 individuals — predominantly women and children — and left nearly 171,000 others wounded since October 2023.
The first stage of the agreement entails the liberation of Israeli captives in return for Palestinian detainees.
The framework also outlines the restoration of Gaza and the formation of a new administrative structure excluding Hamas.
Gaza’s Government Media Office reports that at least 386 people have been killed and 980 more injured by Israeli military fire since the ceasefire took effect.
